Saints vs Eagles Week 5 Betting Picks

By NFL

It might be weird to call a game between two 1-3 teams and exciting game, but Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles has a chance of being one of the best games of the week. The two teams will face each other at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, and the game is scheduled to start at 1 PM. ET.

The reason I think this will be an exciting game is the fact that the game features two offenses that can put up a lot of points but aren’t very good defensively.

Last week, the Saints snapped their three-game losing streak to start the season with a win over the Dallas Cowboys. Granted, the win came against a team that didn’t have its best players available, but the Saints offense looked very good against the relatively healthy Cowboys defense.

A health y Drew Brees might eat this Eagles secondary alive.

A health y Drew Brees might eat this Eagles secondary alive.

Drew Brees came back from an injury that forced him to miss a game the previous week, and looked as sharp as he has in a while, which can’t be good news for the Eagles. He will be trying to keep things going against an Eagles defense that allows an average of 276 passing yards per game, which is 25th in the league.

The Eagles come into this game on the heels of a disappointing loss to the Washington Redskins. In that game, the team played well offensively, but did not take good care of the ball, and had costly turnovers. Defensively, they allowed Kirk Cousins, who has struggled with interceptions his whole career, to rip their defense for 290 yards and 1 touchdown, which was his best performance of the year.

If the Eagles defense could make Kirk Cousins look like a Pro Bowl quarterback, then Drew Brees should be able to carve them up all day long.

The way I see this game, it will be very similar to the game between the Eagles and Atlanta Falcons in week 1 of the NFL season. Both quarterbacks should be able to throw the ball well, and the game will be decided by which team can make the big stops at the end of the game.

This game also has a significant importance for both head coaches, for Saints coach Sean Payton, a loss will put the team in a 1-4 hole. With the way the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons are playing right now, it will be difficult for the Saints to win the NFC South.

If the Saints fail to win the division, their chances of making the playoffs are very slim, which will make this the second consecutive season they miss the playoffs, which will put Payton on the hot seat.

For Chip Kelly, things are even worse, because he was handed full control of the team during the offseason, and the first thing he did was get rid of his best players. Fortunately for him, his team is in the NFC East, and the Eagles are only one game behind the Dallas Cowboys.

The Eagles will have a better chance of making the playoffs than the Saints if they fall to 1-4, but if they fail to make the playoffs in a division as bad as the NFC East, ownership will likely make some changes in the offseason.

Even though it’s still early in the season, both teams have a lot riding on this game, which is why it will be a fun game for NFL fans to watch.

My Pick

As I mentioned earlier, I’m anticipating a high-scoring game, so the smart bet to make here will be to take the over on the total points scored. If you want to bet on the spread, I will take the Saints to cover the 4.5 points.
