The Diamondbacks enter this series in first place in the NL West by only one game over both the Rockies and the San Francisco Giants. Arizona Diamondbacks v Miami MarlinsArizona has played great baseball and has been led by timely offense and some great pitching that has gotten much of its production out of unexpected places – Patrick Corbin being one of the biggest. The 23-year-old lefty out of Central New York has dazzled in the early going – posting a 6-0 record with a 1.52 ERA. Corbin looks to continue his success against an overachieving Rockies side in the rarely-welcoming Coors Field. Colorado has had some success against Corbin from a team standpoint. In 77 total at-bats against Corbin as a team, the Rockies have posted a .364 mark. The Rocks have scored more runs than any team in baseball with 216 at about the quarter point in the MLB season. Willin Rosario has provided another big bat to go along with the always-productive Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez in the middle of the Colorado lineup. As a team, Colorado does not have a significant difference in its splits vs. lefties and vs. righties so the Corbin nastiness against lefties should not be a huge issue from the Rockies’ perspective.

On the other side, Colorado counters Corbin with their own Jon Garland. A bit of a journeyman, Garland has found a degree of success just about everywhere he has pitched at. Garland has been incredibly solid this season – allowing over three earned runs in just one of his eight total starts on the season. Garland’s consistency has allowed Colorado to stay in ballgames and give time for the prolific offense to break through and carry the Rockies to wins in four of his starts. The Snakes have had some success from a career perspective against Garland. Arizona’s lineup boasts a .315 career batting mark against Garland in nearly 200 total at-bats. Paul Goldschmidt leads an Arizona offense that has been predicated upon timely hitting and contributions one through nine in the lineup to get wins and retain the top spot in the division for much of the season. Garland has been very steady for the home team but expect Corbin to continue to deal and prove to be a little too tough for the dynamite lineup of the Colorado Rockies even in the thin air of Coors Field.
