Frys.com Open Betting Picks

By Golf

It seems like just yesterday Jordan Speith was holding up the FedExCup trophy with the sun setting not only on the day but also on the season. Such is professional golf, just 3 weeks later the season will start again with the Frys.com Open beginning on Thursday. There will be quite a few absentees this week with only four players from last weeks Presidents Cup flying straight back to start the season, they are Hideki Matsuyama, Steven Bowditch, Charl Schwartzel and Chris Kirk. That said, it is a very strong field and promises to be a sizzling start to the new season. The main highlight being the confirmation that Rory Mcilroy will play. The Northern Irishman has not played in a professional event for over two months and will be itching to put a quiet season behind him and begin his quest to become the number one golfer in the world again. This week they play the north course at the Silverado Resort and Spa. It is a par 72 and measures 7,203 yards. Last years winner at Silverado, Sangmoon Bae will not be around to defend his title as he now has to begin his 2 year obligatory military service that all South Korean men have to do. Tough for the very popular and talented Bae, but his hands are tied and has no choice despite taking the matter to court. You can bet he will be back ready to defend his title two years from now at this event. The winner this week will receive 500 FedExCup points and will begin the long journey towards the ten million dollar prize.

Rory Mcilroy (+450 BetOnline.ag)

Rory Mcilroy is the best golfer in the field and arguably the world. The 4 time major champion has enjoyed a period of sustained rest so his ankle should be completely healed. Winners always posses a hunger to be the best and with Speith and Day dominating most of least seasons action, there is no doubt that Mcilroy will have a burning desire to once again impose himself on world golf and see his name back at the top of the world rankings.

Hideki Matsuyama (+1600 BetOnline.ag)

Hideki Matsuyama enjoyed a very successful Presidents Cup last week in South Korea. Matsuyama finished third in the tournament last season and will want to go one better this week and win. The Japanese born player will have momentum and form on his side as he comes into the season opener and may well find this environment a lot less stressful than he used to. The Presidents Cup is a different type of stress and Matsuyama experienced it all last week. The talented Japanese player could well thrive this weekend and play some stress free golf that brings the best out of him.

Daniel Berger (+4000 BetOnline.ag)

Daniel Berger is a very exciting young prospect. He missed the cut at the Frys.com Open last year but has shown signs of serious talent throughout the whole of last season. Noticeably a second place finish at the Honda Classic last year. Narrowly losing out to Padraig Harrington in a playoff. The sky is the limit for this youngster, he is due a win sooner or later and will want to start the season with a bang.
