Western Kentucky @ Florida International +7

Well, the streak is over.  Western Kentucky had covered fifteen straight games against the spread prior to last week’s heartbreaking loss to Louisiana-Monroe.  The Hilltoppers jumped out to a 28-7 lead in the second quarter and after Louisiana-Monroe came back to tie the game at 28 in the fourth quarter, Western Kentucky could not hold a 7 point lead with three minutes to play before falling in overtime 43-42.  Florida International is coming off a tough weekend as well as Troy kicked a field goal with 11 seconds to play to knock off the Golden Panthers.

When looking at this game, you have to take into effect the fact that Western Kentucky basically blew their chance at a Sun Belt conference title when the lost a week ago.  You can’t help but wonder if the Hilltoppers will have their heads in the right place for this game.  Western Kentucky has the better team overall, but to go on the road against an assumed pushover after a major kick in the gut spells trap.  Although FIU sports a dismal 1-7 record, they have been competitive in each of their games especially at home.  Aside from their lone win against Akron, they came within 7 points of then #20 Louisville and 4 points to Middle Tennessee State.

What Will Happen:  Western Kentucky will still be in shock from a week ago.  FIU has nothing to lose and at this point any win is huge for the program.  As long as the Golden Panthers can keep from turning the ball over, this should be a close game.  Even if WKU had won last week, this is a bad spot for them going on the road to a sleepy stadium with no one in the stands after last week’s big time atmosphere.  Western Kentucky starts a new streak…two losses in a row against the spread.

Prediction:  Western Kentucky 31 FIU 30

The Play:  FIU +7

YTD Record: 5-7
