Rutgers @ Temple (Preview & Prediction)
The Big East conference has a few teams that are performing very well and one of those teams finds itself on the road this week at Lincoln Financial Field. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-0) and ranked #17 in the country are looking to go 4-0 in conference play at (3-2) Temple. The Owls are a run based attack looking to go against the #2 rush defense in the country. Rutgers has the ability to turn Temple into a one dimensional attack it will be interesting to see how the Owls counter.
The host Owls have a nice one two punch in the backfield with Montel Harris (142) yards last week in a win over Connecticut and versatile back Matt Brown is another dependable option. QB Chris Coyer looks to make plays with his feet first and then looks to throw as the numbers would indicate (662) yards passing through (5) games.
The visiting Scarlet Knights are led by tailback Jawan Jamison who has rushed for a conference leading (665) yards and three scores. QB Gary Nova has thrown for (1.271) yards and (11) scores while only tossing (2) interceptions. WR Brandon Coleman is Nova’s favorite target and is coming off a six catch (104) yard performance in a win over Syracuse.
Rutgers -5.5 @ Temple (Betting Prediction)
The Temple Owls will be jacked up Saturday when the Scarlet Knights make the short 70-mile trip to Philly. Media types are waiting for the Knights to trip up but it will not be this week. This will be a low scoring field position battle but the Knights have a decided advantage on the defensive side of the football with their rush defense. The problem is the Owl attack is in the bottom five in the nation in passing yardage averaging only (132.4) yards per game. Rutgers will pound Jawan Jamison and use play-action to move the ball consistently against the Owl defensive charges. Montel Harris will get a few yards but he will be the target of a lot of attention come kickoff Saturday. Prediction: Scarlet Knights 24 Owls 10
