There are few regular season college games where an entire nation will be tuned into but this weekend should be one of those few. This weekend we have what would make for an incredible National Championship game being played as just a run of the mill regular season contest between 2 division foes.
LSU enters this contest sporting an 8-0 (SU) and 8-2 (ATS) record. The Tigers are scoring an average of 39.2 points per game and allowing just 11.5 points per game. To say their defense is outstanding is an understatement and it goes much deeper than the 251.4 total yards per game they are allowing. Watching this team on defense is an absolute pleasure. They are fast, really fast, tough and physical. If there is any weakness and if you are trying to make an argument for argument sake they aren’t as stout against the pass as they are against the run. They do allow an average of 174.8 yards per game through the air but then they shut down against the run allowing just a mere 76.6 yards per game. Those aren’t the best stats in college football but you also have to consider they faced one of the premiere running teams in all of the NCAA in Oregon to open the season.
Alabama heads into Saturday night with a matching 8-0 (SU) and an even better 7-1 (ATS) record. Topping LSU doesn’t end with the ATS though, nope it continues on with an average scoring effort of 39.4 points per game and even further they allow just 6.9 points per game. As much praise as LSU deserves for what they have done on defense, Alabama deserves just as much if not more. The Crimson Tide are allowing 180.5 yards per game, that breaks down to 135.6 through the air and a mind boggling 44.9 yards per game on the ground.
I am aware that with a game of this magnitude and with all the hype before they even kickoff that there is potential for a serious letdown with the actual game. As true as that is I truly don’t think that will be the case. I feel confident that we will enjoy an absolute slugfest.
LSU @ Alabama Betting Prediction
So who wins the game and what is the play?
LSU has several players still listed as suspended but I would be honestly shocked if those suspensions weren’t lifted in time for this game. Spencer Ware will certainly be a key cog for LSU’s efforts here. Still it will take more than player suspensions to be lifted. Alabama will win this game. I want to say they will dominate this game but that is a little cockier than I tend to be. As good as LSU is against the run the constant pounding from Richardson will lead to some good play-action opportunities and the secondary is where you can get to LSU. Alabama’s offensive line unlike other teams LSU has played goes against a front every bit as good in practice on a weekly basis so there won’t be any surprises.
The safe play here is Alabama -4.5 but if you want to increase the payout and you book has optional lines play Alabama up to -7 and enjoy a truly great game.
