The Gators under head coach Will Muschamp will make their first road appearance of the season this week. Florida has gotten off to an impressive start this season, not impressive because they are 3-0, impressive because they appear to be a new team with a new attitude. Last year the Gators appeared to be going through the motions both on the part of the players and definitely with the coaching staff. This Gator team is inspired and playing aggressive, rejuvenated if you will.

It’s not all peaches and cream for Florida though. There are still some issues that need to be ironed out. Their Red Zone offense has been suspect at best. Against Tennessee they had 5 possessions inside the 20 yard line and on 3 occasions had to settle for fieldgoals. Even against UAB 3 times Florida had to settle because they couldn’t score the touchdown. While credit has to be given to both Tennessee and UAB for playing defense the real problem lies with how Florida tried to score. A combination of personnel and play calling seems to be the problem. In part it’s because the Gators aren’t setup for bruiser type ground and pound football. Also Charlie Weis seems to still be playing around with all the weapons he does have that he hasn’t settled on a particular package yet down in scoring position. Expect Weis to get something figured out as time passes.

Kentucky is off to a dismal start to their season. They won but failed to cover in the home opener against Western Kentucky, won and covered against Central Michigan at home and then lost and failed to cover on the road against a not so good Louisville team. The wildcats look miserable on offense and to be quite honest they aren’t much better on defense.

I often look for possible let down or look ahead spots that can play a role in a current game. Florida has Alabama next week and normally that would be a huge caution flag for me. In this case though and mainly because of how poorly Kentucky has performed to this point in the season I think Florida still rolls. I do believe they will have an eye on next week but I also feel very confidently that Muschamp wants to iron out some of the things they still need to work on.

I have Florida winning 37-13.

Play: Florida -19.5
