The Honda Classic Betting Picks

By Golf, Uncategorized

The Honda Classic has been a fan favourite for many reasons. None more so than watching the players tackle arguably the toughest closing stretch in golf. Holes 16, 17 and 18 make up the Bear Trap. These three holes invariably decide who is going to win the tournament. It is most certainly won or lost here and makes for quite sensational viewing. Back in 2015 Padraig Harrington won in a thrilling playoff over Patrick Berger. With Berger finding the water on 17 and Harrington flushing a 6 iron to 4 feet. There was no need to carry on down the 18th as Berger couldn’t match Harrington’s par. That was the Irishman’s first victory since 2007 and was one to savour as he got the better of the Bear Trap in thrilling circumstances. PGA National(champion) is a tough track. It measures 7, 140 yards and plays as a par 70. It punishes wayward shots with lots of lurking water. During the final round back in 2015, Ian Poulter was leading the tournament by 3 shots. He ended up finishing 1 shot behind the leaders after losing 5 golf balls over his 18 holes. His charge eventually coming to an end on 14 after finding the drink twice and recording a triple bogey. No matter how well things might be going at PGA National, catastrophe is only a blocked or pulled shot away.

Adam Scott (+1100 Betonline.ag)

The smooth swinging Australia has been playing like a man who could win at any moment.  He enjoyed an 11th placed finish last week at Riviera and hopes to go one better by winning the Honda Classic this week. If he can get some early putts to drop and more importantly keep his nerve down the stretch late on Sunday, the big hitting Aussie could make it his first win for the year and defend the title he won here last year.

Danny Willet (+5000  BetOnline.ag)

This will be the Englishman’s first appearance on U.S. soil since his controversial Ryder Cup appearance. The American crowd took exception to his brothers article that some saw as insulting and derogatory. They aimed their venom at Willet and some of the scenes were less than savoury. Willet will want to make a point of doing well and will undoubtedly put in a performance worthy of winning this week at the PGA National.

Thomas Pieters (+3300 BetOnline.ag)

Europe’s Ryder Cup star is on a one way path to greatness. He has made great early strides in this year’s FedEx Cup race and finished for a tie of 2nd last week at Riviera. It is only a matter of time before he wins his first PGA Tour event.
