UFC 190 Ronda Rousey vs Bethe Correia Betting Pick

By MMA, UFC

UFC 190Ronda Rousey is a massive draw in the UFC regardless of who she is fighting.  We’ve almost come to expect that her fights won’t be competitive, but I for one still show up to see how quickly she can finish her opponent.  UFC 190 will be no different.  In fact, I think this may be the biggest discrepancy in skill between Ronda and her opponent since she has been with the UFC.  Correia is currently ranked #5 in the UFC Women’s Bantamweight division and that is being very kind to the Brazilian, who I have to assume is getting bumps up the ranking simply because she is in this title fight.

Yes, Correia is undefeated in her MMA career, but she hasn’t fought a single fighter ranked in the top 15 of the Women’s Bantamweight division.  She is getting this title shot purely because she has beaten Ronda Rousey’s friends in her last 2 fights.  But just because these girls are Rousey’s friends does not make them top fighters.

Shayna Baszler was Correia’s last win.  I watched the fight again last night and Baszler won the first round before just standing in front of Correia against the cage while she took shot after shot without moving her legs.  It was not an impressive win.  I’m not surprised that Baszler has lost 3 straight fights (all finishes) and is becoming irrelevant in the UFC.

Before Baszler, Correia beat Jessamyn Duke by decision.  Since that fight Duke has lost a decision to Elizabeth Phillips and was finished by Leslie Smith.  Neither of these most recent wins over Duke are even ranked in the UFC.  She’s just not very good, but she wasn’t even finished by Correia, who the UFC is promoting as having amazing striking.

Before Duke, Correia only squeaked out a split decision win over Julie Kedzie.  Kedzie had lost 3 fights in a row heading into that fight, but still was basically on the same level as Correia.

Her wins have not been impressive.  She’s just lucky enough to have beaten a couple of Rousey’s friends, which shot her way up the rankings due to supposed “bad blood” between the two.  I realize Rousey has already ripped through the UFC’s Bantamweight division, but I just don’t see how Correia gets this shot based on merit.

Needless to say, I think Rousey is going to finish this fight early in the first round.  She is talking like she wants to damage Correia instead of just finishing her, but let’s be honest.  Rousey is a killer who will take her opportunity when it presents itself.

  • Rousey wins 4:01 to 5:00 of round 1 +650

I didn’t bother with Correia props because she’s not going to be winning this fight.

I like Rousey in round 1 at odds of -245.  Picking which minute she wins in is difficult, but I might be putting a little bit down on 1:01 to 2:00 with odds of +385.  I think that will give her a minute to beat up Correia before finishing the fight if that’s something she actually wants to do.
