St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Mets July 27 Free Pick

By MLB

The Mariners came back after a rough start for Felix Hernandez to get a win for us last night. All the scoring did push the total over, which means it’s just a 1-1 night that nets us nothing in either direction. The last play of the month comes tonight when the Cardinals and Mets play the rubber match in Flushing.

Adam Wainwright has looked like the pitcher we’ve associated with the name for 10 years. He hasn’t had a great 2016, but Waino has managed to dip his ERA nearly a full run over his last four starts. Three earned runs in 29 innings of work will do that for you. The ERA is now just over 4.00 after hovering above 5.00 prior to this run of excellence. It’s no surprise the Cards have won each of his last four starts, too. The bunch goes for five in Wainwright’s first chance against the Mets this season. sbl

He’ll go up against Logan Verrett who makes his ninth start of the season. Verrett has made most of his appearances out of the bullpen this year, but health problems to the Mets’ rotation has him warming up before the game. He’s been very much okay making starts, but hasn’t shut anybody down either. And the Cardinals will make sure to see plenty of pitches tonight. More importantly, a pattern we can’t ignore here: the Mets have alternated a win and a loss over their last 12 games. They played a double-header yesterday and capped the day with a win. When things are going as bad as they are for us, you get desperate.

Let’s close July out with the Birds for half a unit.
