The US Open is getting ever nearer and there is no doubt the players will be keeping one eye on it. Rory Mcilroy has pulled out of this week’s stop in Columbus. The Northern Irishman hasn’t been able to shake a rib injury that he suffered whilst playing the South African Open in January. It will be a race against time for Mcilroy as he desperately tries to get fit for the years second major. Otherwise it is business as usual this week as the players get ready for the Memorial Tournament. A sparkling field has committed to play. Justin Rose has returned from Surrey England, where he competed in the European Tour’s flagship event last week. Rose finished for a share of 12th, an indifferent start hampering his progress. This week’s course is Muirfield Village Golf Club, it measures 7, 392 yards and plays as a par 72. William McGirt is back to defend the title he won here last year. A big ask as there are some sensational players teeing it up at Jack’s place this week. It’s all about peaking at the right time. Not winning this week won’t be the be all and end all of the hopes of anyone wanting to the 117th US Open, but it’s integral for the players searching for form to begin tightening up their games. Dustin Johnson will be looking to win again. Since his tumble down the stairs on the eve of the Masters he hasn’t been able to replicate the form he showed before as he won 3 in a row. It promises to be another great PGA spectacle as the players fight it out for top honours in Colombus.
