My Pick

The 35-year-old Mayfield of San Francisco, California has decent power and an awkward style. He’ll climb into the ring with a record of 19-3-1 along with 11 Kos. His best performance so far was a decision over Mauricio Herrera, who many ringsiders feel beat champion Danny Garcia a couple of years ago but lost on points. Mayfield says he prefers to wear down his opponents and go for the knockout rather than risk going to the judges’ scorecards. Mayfield is confident he can stop his opponent and claims that’s exactly what he’ll be trying to do on Friday night. It might be easier said than done though since Eyubov has a great deal of power himself.

The 5-foot-7 Mayfield is a former NABO Super Lightweight Champion who turned pro back in 2006 and has fought 134 rounds since then. He has a 66-inch reach, but he’s not the most powerful puncher out there and his knockout ratio currently stands at 48 per cent. He also holds wins over Steve Forbes and Raymond Serrano. His three losses came against Dmitry Mikhaylenko as well as a 10-round unanimous decision to Emmanuel Taylor in 2014 and a another 10-round unanimous decision the same year to Thomas Dulorme. He also fought to a two-round technical draw with Jorge Alberto Padilla in 2007.

The 29-year-old Eyubov has knocked out everybody he’s faced so far and enters the contest with a perfect mark of 10-0 with a 100 per cent knockout ratio with his 10 Kos. He definitely hasn’t had the chance to get much experience since he’s fought just 16 rounds since turning pro back in 2012. It’s true that Eyubov has a lot of power, but his list of opponents leaves a lot to be desired. Other than Jarred Robinson, the other nine boxers Eyubov has faced had a combined pro boxing record of 20-87-10.In addition, they had been stopped 48 times between them. Eyubov now fights out of Houston, Texas. He’s just over 5-feet-6-inches tall and has a 65.5-inch reach.

Prediction……

Their contrasting styles here should make for an interesting contest and hopefully an exciting one as well. Eyubov definitely has the edge in power and is also six years younger, but Mayfield’s experience should help him out. Basically, if Mayfield, who has never been stopped, can handle Eyubov’s power then he should be able to take a decision. This is a tossup since we won’t know just how good Eyubov is until after this bout. But by the looks of it so far, he has to knock Mayfield out to win.

This could go either way to be honest.
